Some small business owners have such small operations that they try to manage their computer needs on their own. But even the smallest of companies can benefit from improved efficiency and reduced downtime that true managed services experts like AMRCON can provide.
Ross Maghan knows this all too well. Until recently, Maghan, President of the full-service Ross Maghan Insurance Agency based in Matawan, NJ, managed his own computer needs.
“Despite the fact that I am fairly competent with computers, it was hopeless,” said Maghan. His business had grown to include eight work stations, and he could not get the computers networked properly. “There were many problems,” said Maghan. “But I did not have the time or skill to do it myself, or the money to hire a full-time IT person.”
“Most computer problems were far beyond my scope and they would take my whole day to resolve them, and that meant I wasn’t tending to my business,” Maghan said.
When Maghan called AMRCON in to help, CEO Dee Rudko immediately suggested constructing a network. “The office was initially on a peer-to-peer network, which is fine if you’re only using a few computers,” Rudko said. “But for an office that has more workstations and no server, it is nearly impossible to manage calendar, contacts and mail among all users.”
Security is also a major issue when an office is not operating on a network. “When you can centralize all security, anti-virus, anti-spyware and back-up processes through one server, you achieve much greater preventive and proactive maintenance,” Rudko said.
But first, before a network could be built, AMRCON had to get all the computers operating at maximum efficiency. “Through our On Demand Support (ODS), we cleaned up all of the workstations, installed our custom security and maintenance programs, and got them working safely and efficiently,” said Rudko.
“Shortly after, when Ross was renovating his office, we helped upgrade all of his technology and we created a server environment,” Rudko continued. “We did all the wiring and product installation, and brought all of the work stations onto the same network. Now, the staff can actually take advantage of today’s technology.”
“AMRCON provides a value-added service,” said Maghan. “They set up my whole computer network and they manage it daily. If we do have any problems, AMRCON solves them quickly and easily. Now, I can spend more time doing my job since I don’t worry about IT problems anymore.”
