Sometimes, it’s easy to forget that municipalities are businesses. But they are, and like all businesses, they have the same security, human resource, financial transaction, and computer network issues.
For Colts Neck Township, a small farm community in Monmouth County, New Jersey, years of inputting township records was suffocating its outdated server. And, with no off-site backup in place, the Township was at serious risk of losing data.
“We had never seen the need for off-site back-up in the past,” said John Antonides, Chief Financial Officer for Colts Neck Township. “But we started to run into problems with certain computers, and we soon realized that if we crashed we could lose everything. Our computer records go back twenty years, and a crash would have devastating consequences,” Antonides said.
So Antonides called in Dee Rudko, CEO of AMRCON, to help decrease the township’s risk. First, Rudko determined that the various computer problems and down-time that Colts Neck Township experienced was due to a memory overload on the server. “They were operating eight machines on one server that just couldn’t handle the capacity,” Rudko said. “Whenever a computer or two would be down, it would often displace the employees, and therefore the township’s efficiency, for entire days at a time.”
The goal was to reduce downtime, increase efficiency, and keep expenses low. With that in mind, Rudko suggested that a new server was not necessary. “We assisted Colts Neck in getting the maximum utilization on its existing server by increasing drive space and memory,” said Rudko. “Sometimes, new equipment is called for and sometimes, it’s not. When we can help a client get the most out of what they have, it is always the best case scenario.”
In addition to improving Colts Neck’s server, AMRCON is providing 24/7 maintenance and support to address any IT problems through its On Demand Support (ODS). “By reconstructing its server and providing daily maintenance, we were able to increase efficiency for the township tremendously,” said Rudko.
Finally, Colts Neck asked AMRCON to supply off-site backup services as well. “In the event of any type of crash, Colts Neck will not lose any data,” said Rudko. “We’re running daily back-ups on its system and storing that back-up data at our location to protect it from any potential crashes.”
“AMRCON has been working with Colts Neck for about a year now, and we’ve been very pleased with the results,” said Antonides.
All of the IT problems that Colts Neck endured are common issues that every business will face at one time or another. AMRCON can help any business, or municipality, tackle every tough IT problem to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
